You have the right to own a gun just as you have the right to speak. So anyone who complains about the existence of guns in our everyday lives needs to face the facts. There is nothing you can do about it. People who are willing to gun down the innocent will be willing to obtain their weapons in illegal ways.
There are also those who think owning a gun should be made easier. Their concept is "more guns, more safety". Will people be less motivated to commit an act of crime because they know everyone is strapped? What option do you have to protect your loved ones should some one stupid try to harm them?
The issue is not the gun its who fired it. There are too many angry people out there. I will always hold people accountable for their actions but humanity has sort of let these tired souls down. They do not know a happy day and have carried the anger since youth. If you are not feeling love, friendship, and self-worth then the experience of life can be frustrating. Living is absolutely tough. To try to get through by yourself or to feel that there is no one who can relate to you is not an easy place to be.
It is not enough to be nice, you must be kind to the people you encounter. Try to relate to them. Make an attempt to understand those around you, they may be carrying a gun.

countries where it is harder to get a gun have lower crime rates.
just because we have the legal right to own a gun....does that mean it should be so easy to obtain gun ownership? shouldn't there at least be some kind of gun training and possibly psychological test in order to have legal license to own a gun? this would definately not fix all the problems with guns, but it would be an effort towards a positive change in society. The less amount of guns that are available, the less likely people will kill using guns. guns make it too easy to kill somebody. in regards to angry people; people who don't know a happy day, the tired soul; it is from a society that has developed into an environment where morals have been devalued. Everything begins with family dynamic. It is a sad society when the reasons why you should be kind to people is because they might have a gun. People shouldn't have to be kind out of fear, they should be kind because they appreciate their fellow man. we are living in this world surviving together.
the other side to this idea is that guns create a sense of equality in people physically. it gives strength to the weak. but remember, no matter how advanced we get, we are still human beings (homosapiens) with a natural animal instinct. is it possible that this same animal instinct is is the key to the success of the natural progress of earth and our existence?
So, human kindness is propagated here for the sake of preserving one self from a shot? just kidding...
you are right that if a nut-head will decide to kill someone he'll probably get a hold on the gun somewhere else besides the gun shop next corner.
but, i am wondering, what does the immediacy of access to guns in this country has to do with violence? probably something. the easy access to weapons allows mentally unhealthy people to posses something that kills, and to apply it often, spurred by the moment. the reaction "i'll kill him" ceases to be mere words when the person who utters it actually has a gun in his closet. it seems to me, that if this access wasn't that immediate, half of the murders labeled as "temporary insanity" could have been prevented.
another thing, coming from a country where every grownup has some training in weapons, i cannot but observe how this influences the overall inclination of our society to violence. an even though we are all trained for 3 years to be dangerous with weapons, even though israel toughly regulates the citizens' possessions of weapons there are so many cases when people get killed and get to kill only because they had the access to it.
shortly, my bet is that if all the nut-heads that ended up killing their girlfriends didn't have a gun, just right in their closet, there's a good chance that at least half of these girlfriends would still be alive...
