Do we need to learn from every situation we encounter? Should we always look for a deeper meaning to explain our experiences? Are there reasons for the outcomes of our lives? Are we punished? Are we rewarded?

or

Is what we go through and what we feel random? Are we all just moving around and bouncing off one another? Do we just float from room to room and pass day to day with no real explanation of why things occur when they do?

yes we learn from every situation we encounter. it's how humans work....we learn from experience. everything that ever happens to you is stored in your brain and will always be there. no, we should not always look for the deeper meaning. it is important to always be open for deeper meaning if it appears, but if you always put a lot of energy into the deeper meaning, you will drive yourself crazy, or find meaning simply because you are looking for it. we are only human, we are not supposed to completely understand everything. when meaning needs to be seen, it will be. yes, there are reasons for outcomes in our lives. if the only reason is because it is the direction of our life, it is still a reason. everything you do matters, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem. Punishment and reward are possibly all a matter of perspective.

these are just possible answers to your questions to think about.

To pick up the point of possible answers...
Maybe we humans are so anxious to find the deeper meanings because we so dread the possibility that there are none...
Maybe its our narcissistic nature that tells us that there is no way WE, don't have meaning...
Or maybe its our desire to sense control over our destinies, to feel that there's a certain conditioning in life: "if I'll be good - positive things will happen to me". It is very hard to accept that everything that happens to us is random and often doesn't have anything to do with our actions and intentions...

Yes!! Dude, both of your interpretations seem to be right-on the money. The equation is never just 2+2=4 it is more like ((-2)+2)+4=4. Only, my experiences, so don't go scaling off of my equations, one must find their own.
